How to clean and care for your motocross boots

How to maintain your motocross boots?

Maintaining your motocross boots is essential for ensuring their longevity, performance, and your overall safety. Here are some tips on how to properly maintain your motocross boots:

Cleaning:

After each ride, clean your boots thoroughly. Use a soft brush to remove dirt, mud, and debris. Add Soapy water mix to your boots - you can use the same bike wash you're using to clean your dirt bike, however ensure the soap doesn't sit on the boots for too long, as the chemicals in the cleaning can potentially start to damage the materials that make up your MX boots. A gentle stream of water can help, but avoid using high-pressure washers, as they may damage the boots.

How to Clean Your Motocross Boots

Drying:

Allow your boots to air dry completely after each use. Avoid using direct heat sources such as heaters or hairdryers, as excessive heat can damage the materials. Use a Air Compressor to help dry your boots out faster.

Boot Storage:

Store your boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use boot trees or stuff the boots with newspaper to help them maintain their shape.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures:

Avoid exposing your boots to extreme temperatures, as this can cause the materials to degrade. Store them in a climate-controlled environment when not in use.

Check and Tighten Hardware:

Regularly check the buckles, straps, and any other hardware for tightness and functionality. Tighten or replace any loose or damaged components.

Inspect for Damage:

After each ride, inspect your boots for any signs of damage, such as tears, worn-out soles, or broken parts. Address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.

Boot Soles:

Check the condition of the boot soles regularly. If the soles are worn or damaged, consider having them replaced to maintain grip and safety.

Boot Conditioner:

Use a suitable boot conditioner or protectant to keep the leather or synthetic materials in good condition. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the specific type of material used in your boots.

Replace Insoles:

If your boots have removable insoles, consider replacing them periodically to maintain comfort and support.

Waterproofing:

If your riding conditions often involve water or mud, consider applying a waterproofing treatment to keep your feet dry and protect the boots from water damage.

Avoid Chemicals:

Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, gasoline, or solvents, as they can damage the materials of the boots. If your boots come into contact with any of these substances, clean them promptly with water and mild soap.

Regularly Wear and Flex:

Regularly wearing and flexing your boots helps prevent stiffness and keeps the materials in good condition. If you store your boots for an extended period, take them out and flex them occasionally.
